Our Mission

It all started with this Handsome Boy right here, “ Hashbrown the Destroyer”. We did not know if at the time, but the person we got him from is the reason why “backyard breeders” have a bad reputation., She was pretty close to being a puppy mill. and at the time we were just happy to get a puppy for cheap. This Breeder also contacted us later about us taking in 2 of her adult dogs, that they were no longer breeding. Since Hashbrown was built like a Rottweiler and seemed to be the perfect specimen, we had no problem taking in a few more dogs from them.

Sunny was a stud dog, and it was soon obvious that he was attention starved and had lived in a kennel his whole life. He was a loving dog, but he was left in his kennel too long, and learned to do his business in his kennel and became impossible to train to go outside.

Next came Trixie, she was bred to be as small as possible, and she had a serious underbite along with other medical conditions. We were beginning to realize that not all breeders took care of their dogs, but we did not realize the extent of the damage careless breeding can cause families in the long run.

We love all of our dogs, but Hashbrown was our special guy, at 4 years old, when he twisted the wrong way chasing a bird, he started limping, and did not want to move, after a vet appointment, we found out he had IVDD, later that year he started having seizures and with the seizures came a stroke. When he had the stroke, he ended up blind and paralyzed and in a lot of pain.

There were a few months that year, that we did not know if he would make it. Slowly his brain remapped itself and his vision came back, and he learned to walk again. He almost returned to normal, but when he got stressed, the seizers would return, and with the seizures came the back issues. The last seizure he had was in 2020 when he was 12, this seizure took his life and a piece of our hearts along with him.

We desperately wanted another doxie, and we searched for months to no avail. After lots of searching, we happened to find 3 little puppies that were available, and since we could not choose between them, we put deposits down on all three and waited until they were 8 weeks old.

While we waited, we did research and realized that there was so much more regarding Doxie healthcare, and the special needs this breed requires to stay healthy. and we decided we would do everything possible from the start to make sure our new babies had a long and healthy life. We built ramps for our new puppies, We found out about Genetic Testing, pedigrees, PRA, IVDD, coat colors, Double dapples, dilutes, etc,

As our new dogs have grown, we decided we wanted to be part of building a better breed of Dachshund. We started by genetic testing all of our dogs through Embark, to find out where they stood in regards to PRA, IVDD, and Dapple. and to make sure they did not carry any genetic issues that were relevant to the breed.

All of our Breeding dogs are CHIC Certified through the OFA. The OFA, recommends the health screening tests for all breeding dogs. Dogs meeting these health screening requirements will be issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria.

Our Mission is to breed healthy dogs, who are well socialized, and who have the best chance of leading long and happy lives. We don’t want anyone to have to go through what we went through with their new puppy. So we strive to learn as much as possible, and to help educate all new puppy parents of the risks associated with owning and loving a dachshund.

We do genetic testing through Embark for all of our dogs, we test for PRA, IVDD, Inbreeding Coeffency, Coat Color (ie: dapple, dilute), and other hereditary diseases. Our dogs participate in OFA Certified Health Screenings for Eyes, Patellas, DNA, etc. We don’t breed dogs with the merle gene that creats a dapple dog, and we will never breed 2 dogs that are PRA effected together, one of our goals is to breed out the PRA altogether in our pack, but also to understand the genetic testing is a guideline to build a better breed of dog, it should be used as a tool and not the rule when selecting a dog. As a genetically perfect dachshund, might not meet breed conformation. So we need to take all the tools available to us to make decisions about our program.

While we do have mini doxies, our goal is not to breed dogs for size, but for their best health

All of our dogs are fed Victor Nutra Pro, a super-premium professional dog food for healthy coats and bodies, and are regularly vet checked for health and microchipped.
